Lady Magdalena

The Grove of Phoenix Rising

Atlanta, GA

Lady Magdalena was born in the mid-west, but has lived in many cultures, from Japan to Europe, from California to Georgia and other memorable places in between. In addition to the school of life, she earned a Bachelor's and Master's Degree of Visual Art and has taught art in community centers, private and public schools and universities.

Her other career as a visual artist has dovetailed quite smoothly with her Priestess role. Research and study in both fields inform each other. She has synthesized her art training in many media producing pottery, sculpture, jewelry, weaving, hand dye-painted silks, drawings, canvas paintings and sacred objects. Lady Magdalena's current Goddess paintings reveal feminine power bursting from mysterious images of the Divine in surrealistic and mythological environments. Her colorful paintings and lustrous Raku sculptures vigorously champion her visionary message.

"Into the mystery of Her night, I am making my visions come true. As this line from a Native American chant states, from the dreaming seed in the fertile well-womb of fantasy to the illuminating birth of creation, my art is born from my soul and body. The language of art was my first religion and its rebellious theology still serves as priestess to my spirituality."

Personal quests during far flung travels from the ancestor spawning peak of Mt. Fujiama, Japan, to the matriarchal murals and sculptures of temple ruins in Mediterranean Crete, to the irresistible magnetism of the silent stone circles in Cornwall, Wales, Ireland and Scotland have fueled her inner visions. "And GoddeMagdalenass, in all Her wisdom opens my eyes, directs my hands and inspires me to make my dreams come true."

The call from the Ancient Great Goddess has shaped Lady Magdalena's life for many years. Lady Magdalena established the Grove of Phoenix Rising in the fall of 1982 in Austin, Texas and founded covens in Texas, Germany and Georgia. She has been writing and practicing seasonal and moon rituals for over 25 years and teaches classes in the Old Religion of Witchcraft to selected students. Lady Magdalena also conducts healing circles, meditations, drumming and chanting circles and gives public seminars on art in mythology, paganism and Goddess spirituality.

For leisure, Lady Magdalena likes to read, sing, sew, hike, and practice yoga. Her latest passion is belly dancing. She is also becoming quite active in local politics, community organizations and interfaith work. She and Lord Myrddin have three children, two grandchildren, three cats and an herb garden with prolific basil bushes.
